Reviews, word for word.

Ryan and his team are phenomenal. They completed a massive gut renovation of my historic multifamily Victorian in Gloucester, built a beautiful ADU, and have handled several other projects for me over the years. Their work is top-notch, they’re reliable, and the pricing is incredibly fair for the quality.

I’m about to take on another major project, and Ryan is the only contractor I’m calling. Couldn’t recommend him and his team more highly.

I cannot recommend Penney Construction enough. Our family put an addition on our home and I can honestly say that it was the best experience with any construction company that I have experienced in my life. Ryan Penney, the owner, was involved in the process from start to finish—providing guidance, options, expertise, and support. Communication (probably the trait that I value most during projects like this) was second to none. The Penney Construction workers were on time, efficient, and detailed in their work. The team’s craftsmanship and attention to detail was incredible and we left the project 100% satisfied with every single aspect of their work. What made our family’s experience even more unique is that my wife was going through significant cancer treatment during the work. I cannot express how great Ryan and his team were with putting her needs first and empowering us to let him know when the work could be completed, essentially being willing and able to work around her treatment schedule for the duration of the project. In closing, when my wife’s treatment was over, a beautiful bouquet of flowers arrived at our home from Penney Construction—a testament to the character and level of care that Ryan and his team have for their customers. Check them out and give them a call, you will be so glad that you did!

We have now done three substantial projects with Ryan and his team, and we could not recommend them more. We were looking to renovate our house to increase the usable space while maintaining the charm of a 100-year old house; the Penney Construction crew partnered with us at every step of the way to ensure our projects matched our vision and stayed within our budget. Having just wrapped almost a full year of work with the team, we are in love with our new house and have lost count of the compliments we receive from friends and family on the work Ryan and his team did at our house!

Ryan and his team are amazing! They did a fairly large scale project at our house. I would say they touched almost every room. They swapped our primary bathroom and closet, which was a lot more complicated than it sounds, they did a second bathroom which was ripped down to the studs, they did custom shelving in all our closets. They retrofitted a double wall oven into an existing oven cabinet that had an oven/microwave combo and you would never know. They installed a built in bottom and upper cabinets in our family room, put in hardwood floors in all the bedrooms which had carpet before and then sanded all my hardwood floors, lightening them as I requested, and painted everything single room except for 2 that didn’t need it. They are very reasonable and honest!

I highly recommend them, not only for their knowledge, work ethic, and attention to detail, but also because they are all genuinely nice people. Also Ryan is excellent at communication which was key for me.

Penney Construction is the unicorn!!

After 20 years in our first home, we decided it was time to move on. We found a home but knew it needed a lot of work and renovation to fit our needs. We never experienced work of this magnitude and we partnered with Penney Construction due to their reputation. We did not have any experience with a full home renovation but Ryan, his team and all the subcontractors gave us guidance and expertise with our build. Ryan and his team are just amazing! Everyone he works with also has high standards and are so personable and professional. The quality of work is impeccable!  It's as if we're working with family and they truly cared about our needs.

Everyone hears about construction nightmares but this was NOT the case for us. Ryan and his team kept us well informed of schedules, next steps, key decisions, and costs/budget!! It's almost hard to believe we gutted an entire home and rebuilt 1st floor, added a second floor and outdoor living space and never truly felt stressed due to Ryan and team.  They built us a beautiful forever home and we love everything about it!

So much appreciation for Ryan, Wayne, Nicole, Christian and Brian!!! And the amazing subcontractors Mike & Tom (MTP Electric), Matt (Matt McKiernan Plumbing), Marcio (MGL Tile), Weslei (WRD Pro Painting), Binh (Peter Master Floors), Tom (siding), Rob (J&R Construction & Demolition) and Jenna Ellison (architect).

We consider ourselves lifetime members of Penney Construction:)

From start to finish, working with Ryan was a positive experience. He set clear expectations from day one regarding pricing, the scope of work, and the timeline. Communication was exceptional throughout the entire project—I received daily updates and always knew what to expect next. His crew was professional, courteous, respectful of my home, and cleaned up at the end of every day, which made living through a major renovation easier. He completely renovated my kitchen, bathroom, and lower level, and the results were awesome! I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, honest, and skilled contractor.

Ryan and team were great to work with from the start. Ryan was prompt and communicative, and the entire estimation process was seamless. Within a couple weeks of the first walkthrough, we were able to get an a detailed estimate broken down into individual parts, and have full visibility into the entire project from the very beginning. Thank you Ryan & Team!

Penney Construction did a great job on our kitchen renovation! Standouts were Wayne who did the cabinets and some customization for us was very skilled, as was Marcio who did the tile work. Communication was good, pricing was transparent and we came in right on budget without using all of the contingency. I don't have professional photos, but here are a couple I shot.

We had a great experience with Penney Construction and Ryan. They completely remodeled our kitchen and added a new bathroom and laundry area, and we are so happy with how everything turned out.

From the beginning, communication was excellent. Ryan was always easy to reach, kept us informed throughout the project, and helped us make decisions without ever making us feel pressured. He understood our budget and worked with us to get the biggest impact for our money while never sacrificing quality.

As with any renovation, a few small issues came up along the way. What really stood out was how Ryan and his team handled them. They were honest, quick to address any concerns, and always gave us options so we could make the best decision while staying within our budget.

The crew was professional, friendly, and respectful of our home. They kept the work area clean and organized throughout the project, which made living through a renovation much easier.

We couldn't be happier with the finished project and would highly recommend Penney Construction. The only issue we have is that our dog now misses seeing everyone.

We have been working with Penney Construction for over ten years. To have a relationship with a contractor for that long of a time span tells you all that you need to know. Ryan and his crew are professional, communicative and do the highest quality of work no matter if it’s a “small job” or a large project. Ryan is excellent at going over estimates and covering all the projected costs so there are no surprises. He responds quickly to any issues (if any), concerns or questions and stays in touch with you step by step through your project. From renovating multiple rooms in our home to also renovating portions of our business we have never been disappointed with the end product. I highly recommend Penney Construction.

Penney Construction did our recent bathroom remodel. They were on time, on budget, and extremely helpful with design suggestions. I cannot recomend them more highly. They are the best!

Fantastic experience working with Ryan and his team. Attentive, detailed, and very respectful and friendly to my wife and two young children. They built us a beautiful master bath and front door portico, both of which will last a lifetime. Will absolutely be working with them again.

My husband and I bought a house that we wanted to completely remodel. We had the pleasure of working with Penney Construction. Ryan is incredibly knowledgeable in his field and he and his small crew worked tirelessly to complete the job ahead of schedule. Not only are they talented at what they do, but Ryan was able to bring our vision to life on a fixed budget. I told Ryan what we wanted and what our budget was, and he somehow made it happen. I would highly recommend Penney Construction.

Ryan and his crew were easy to work with and very professional. The quality of our bathroom remodel is impeccable. He worked with us on design features and presented alternatives and options as we went through the process. Very communicative on when work would be done. Have recommended him to friends and neighbors and absolutely will work with him again.

Have to write a post about the amazing work Penney Construction Company is done on our home. We wanted to open a wall between our living room and kitchen for 12 years and finally got the nerve to do it and called around received 3 quoted but Ryan at Penney Construction was the most professional with the most knowledge of codes and structure codes. The best part his team is amazing clean up after each day like they never came into your home. Great group of men work is done like a perfectionist. Thank you again for a job well done. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Simply the best. Careful planning, meticulous work, excellent communication, wonderful follow-up. I’ve used Penney Construction for several jobs over the years and can’t recommend them enough!

My wife and I have worked with Penney Construction twice now—first for a full kitchen remodel in 2022, and most recently for a front entry door and transom replacement.

Ryan Penney is an awesome guy! He answered my call right away and had no problem letting me run a smaller door project by him, even during his busy schedule. One of the first things he asked was how we were enjoying our previous kitchen remodel. Four years later, our kitchen is just as amazing as the day it was completed. We still absolutely love it, and it's a testament to the quality of Penney Construction's work.

Within 24 hours, Ryan had someone at our house to take measurements. Within about a week, we received a couple of detailed quotes for different replacement door options. Each proposal was thorough and well thought out, especially considering the custom door size required for our nearly 100-year-old Colonial home.

We selected the option that best fit the style of our home. The pricing was fair and reasonable for the quality of the work and materials.

The project was completed within 30 days from start to finish, with only about four days of actual work at our home—three days for demolition, construction, and installation, followed by one full day of painting.

I can't say enough good things about Ryan and his team. John and Dylan, who handled the construction and installation, were extremely friendly, professional, and respectful while working in our home. They arrived promptly every morning at 7:30 and always took the time to check in with me, explain the day's work, and discuss any recommendations. During the project, they discovered some rotted structural framing around the old doorway that needed to be replaced. They clearly explained the issue, recommended the proper repair, and completed the additional work with the same level of craftsmanship as the rest of the project. Ryan also made a point to stop by personally to check on the progress and make sure everything was going smoothly, which we really appreciated.

Once the door was installed, Weslei, the painter, was just as impressive. He went above and beyond to perfectly match the existing trim and stair colors, making the new entry look like it had always been part of the house. He also shared a few thoughtful ideas for future painting projects around our home.

After everything was complete, Ryan provided a detailed final invoice that reflected the minor adjustments we had agreed upon during the project. There were absolutely no surprises, and the entire payment process was straightforward and hassle-free.

The finished door looks absolutely stunning. It blends so seamlessly with our nearly 100-year-old home that it looks like it has always been there. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are exceptional, and the quality of the work is well worth the investment.

We highly recommend Penney Construction to anyone looking for a contractor who delivers exceptional craftsmanship, outstanding communication, and honest, professional service. My family and I have complete confidence in Ryan and his team, and we look forward to calling Penney Construction again for our next home project.

We highly recommend Penney Construction. We renovated a great room fireplace , did 2 complete remodels of full size bathrooms, multiple custom closets and an overhaul of a master bedroom which included flooring. In addition Penney construction helped with multiple finish projects to take our home to the next level. Penney construction was affordable, timely, thorough and very professional. We will be using Penney Construction for any future projects.

We have used Penney Construction for multiple home renovations and have been extremely happy with their work. The workers are all extremely friendly and competent. Ryan is wonderful to work with and really helped our ideas and vision come to life. We are so happy with their work and would absolutely hire them again for future home renovation projects!!

We used Penney Construction to repair water damage in our home. Ryan and his crew were excellent to deal with and Ryan continuously checked on the progress and quality of the work being done. Ryan’s staff were pleasent to work with and meticulously detailed. Howie and Wayne, Ryan’s finish carpenters, did excellent work and were always available to address any concerns that we had. The subcontractors that Ryan uses are also excellent. His plumbing contractor, John, was excellent and came highly recommend. Electrical, tile and painting were also excellent. Ryan had his painting contractor return after the project was completed to touch up any spots missed or damaged.

Throughout this process Ryan was on top of all the details and available through texting, email, in person and by phone. Ryan has an excellent and well deserved reputation for quality work. I have to concur with this and will be happy to recommend his services to anyone and I’m also planning on using Ryan in the spring for other projects.

We had a great experience with Penney Construction. They completed a couple of projects for us over the past year, including replacing storm doors and renovating our basement. Their work was excellent, they were reliable and dependable, and they were a pleasure to work with. Ryan is also a genuinely nice person. We would definitely recommend Penney Construction and would happily hire them again.

I recently had Penney Construction install a new deck at my home, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. The entire process, from selecting the materials and colors to the final installation, was simple and stress-free.

Their office staff was outstanding, friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer any questions. The construction crew was equally impressive. Every member of the team was courteous, professional, and hardworking, often working until dark to ensure the project stayed on schedule.

Owner Ryan takes great pride in his work and genuinely cares about his customers. He checked in throughout the project to make sure everything was progressing as expected and that we were completely satisfied with the results.

I highly recommend Penney Construction to anyone looking for quality craftsmanship, excellent customer service, and a company that truly stands behind its work.
